Muscular Massage Therapy
Muscular massage therapy is very specialized hands-on, form of manual therapy that works to identify and address muscular dysfunction and pain in the body. Muscles can develop “trigger points” – a hyperirritable spot that is painful. The goal of neuromuscular massage therapy is to relieve the pain and any other dysfunction.
During your treatment session, a massage therapist will locate and deactivate trigger points by using varying amounts of pressure. Techniques used during include skin rolling, myofascial release, deep tissue massage, and trigger point work.
Typically the therapist uses either their hands or thumbs to apply gliding techniques. Occasionally a massage tool called a T-bar is used. The client is generally undressed and draped on the table. A typical session lasts an hour and soreness after treatment can occur.
