Myofascial Release Massage
Fascia is a soft connective tissue located just below the skin that wraps and connects the muscles, bones, nerves and blood vessels of the body. When injuries, stress and tension cause trigger points or knots to form in the fascia you can experience pain and muscle tension. Myofascial Release (also known as skin rolling) is a whole-body approach to healing that seeks to restore balance by releasing this tension.
During your treatment, massage therapists stretch and smooth out knotted up fascia by applying pressure in the direction of the restriction. The strokes are deliberately slow lasting a minimum of 90 to 120 seconds and sometimes as long as 5 minutes. Pressure is gentle but firm. Your session can last from 30 minutes to an hour and a half. No oil is used.
Myofascial Release is especially effective in providing longer-term relief for chronic pain and dysfunction associated with muscle tightness. It is often suggested that initial treatment consist of several sessions.
